Historically the Practice has been in existence since before the inception of the NHS and has always looked for new opportunities to provide better quality care. Originally practicing from premises in the Edgeley district of Stockport it moved to Shaw Heath health centre when it opened in 1977 and opened a branch surgery in Bramhall which has expanded to become our main base.

In the past 5 years the practice has greatly expanded its teaching commitment becoming a training practice in 1999, we also provide primary care attachments for medical students from the University of Manchester and St Matthews University, Florida.

To modernise our practice structure and improve our human resources management we overhauled our practice management structure to improve channels of communication with the result that we were awarded “Investors in People” recognition.

Our practice has been using computers for more than 12 years and has developed a considerable and reliable database of clinical information. We ceased using paper patient records during consultations in January 2000 and have recently completed development of electronic laboratory links. It is envisaged that the move to paperless practice will be almost complete with the introduction of electronic mail communication of outpatient and hospital discharge correspondence in the next 6 months.

Non-clinical staff include a Practice Manager, Assistant Manager, secretaries and a further 13 reception/clerical staff across the two sites.
