The practice is mainly in Marple which still has a small town/village feeling to it. The practice extends to the surrounding semi rural areas. The town itself has several restaurants, an independent cinema and numerous pubs. Open countryside is on our doorstep and we have the advantage of the magnificent walking in the peak district and also the metropolitan delights of Manchester.
Marple Cottage Surgery has a long history of being a teaching practice and also a long history of innovation. We are a PMS plus practice with a nurse practitioner in addition to a practice nurse. We have been in the forefront of IM&T development in general practice and have won a national award for our use of IT. We also have the advantage of a full time clinical audit manager who is responsible for the coding and management of our data. The Q&O framework of the new contract holds no fears for us and we have achieved 100% each year.
We practice from a converted Victorian house with an extension which provides us with plenty of space. The registrar has their own designated room, no hot seating here! There is also a large car park. The registrar consults in tandem with either of the GP Partners so there is always support and advice to hand. We make extensive use of medical internet sites and expert systems to help us manage our patients.
Marple is a mixed community with just enough deprivation to make it interesting without being overwhelmed. We are very well organised and have always attained our access targets (being able to offer appointments within 24 hours).
