THE PRACTICE
The practice occupies part of a large newly built three storey Health Centre at the edge of the precinct on Hyde Road, Woodley near Stockport. The practice shares the building with two other practices but is clinically and administratively separate, although the two practices share reception and floor space as well as essential items of hardware. (EMIS) photocopier etc. The building also houses Health Visitors, District Nurses, School Nurses, Physiotherapist and Midwives and the usual administrative team attached to the Primary Care Trust.
The practice serves about 3,800 patients. Until the appointed trainer (Dr Coghlan) retired thirteen years ago, the practice was approved for training. Until then, there had been a General Practitioner Registrar in post each year for over ten years. We have now been approved as a training practice and at present have one FY2 Doctor which will increase to two in August as well as a ST2.
An EMIS computer system is in operation, with multiple terminals, which has been linked directly with the Stockport NHS Primary Care Trust for all payments and laboratory results etc. The practice has also purchased a freestanding system for the purpose of the staff payroll and accounts and the NHS net.

This is a compact, well established and congenial practice whose emphasis is on a high standard of personal care: its philosophy is to achieve the optimum care for patients by taking the best of recent developments and by maintaining a good professional relationship with local hospitals and consultant colleagues. The practice has an excellent reputation in the locality for enjoying extremely good relationships with patients, based on a combination of friendly respectful informality and firm, consistent adherence to practice policies with respect to patient demand. Out of hours demand is below average. We employ Mastercall OOH from 6pm until 8.00am weekdays and for the whole of the weekend. There is a Monday evening surgery 6:30pm -8:30pm every week.
